    Monsters Dance Conventions is the only all hip hop dance event, offering instruction from industry professionals and giving dancers real opportunities!

     

    Monsters Dance tours the country with its three-day dance workshops instructed by its world renowned faculty of choreographers, plus auditions for thousands of dollars in scholarships, seminars, performance opportunities, freestyle battles, and much more!

    Our mission is to bring hip hop dancers together with the industry’s top dance professionals in a fun and challenging environment that fosters self-fulfillment and career development.

  • WHO WE ARE

    Monsters Dance was started by Andy and Becky Funk with Becky’s sister, Angie Worley. Collectively, the three developed the unique concept for Monsters Dance based on Becky and Angie’s background in competitive dance, and Andy’s experience in business and marketing. They saw a need, took a chance and created a Monster!

     

    While Monsters has grown tremendously, the company always strives to maintain the family environment on which it was built.

    BECKY & ANDY FUNK

    This dynamic couple’s story begins in high school in the Fall of 1989 when a beautiful dancer, Ms. Freshman, made eyes with a spikey-haired, glasses-wearing, band nerd who made her laugh. Thirty years, two businesses and three kids later, their uncommon story is one of perseverance, vision, inspiration and love. Overcoming challenges of health and loss, a financial recession and balancing business and family life, The Funks have successfully navigated through the tough times and maintained humility and tempered enthusiasm during the best of times.

     

    In 2003, combining Andy’s entrepreneurial spirit and Becky’s love of hip hop, this driven couple created a visionary platform that would transform the commercial dance industry. Frustrated by the “everybody gets a trophy” competition world and lack of “real, authentic opportunities for dancers,” Monsters of HipHop was born. The Funks assembled an A-List faculty that took the industry by storm attracting dancers from all over the globe, fulfilling dreams and launching thousands of dance careers.

    Monsters has become the respected leader in one of the toughest industries, being called upon to produce auditions, casting and industrials for the likes of Disney, Universal, Sony, Janet Jackson and so much more. From Creative Directors and Choreographers to dancers of all ages, Monsters’ footprint can be seen in all aspects of the entertainment industry.

     

    A true family start-up, Monsters of HipHop was the Funk’s second business venture following up a very successful dance studio. Their proudest moments, besides the achievements of their own children, are the moments when they see their Monsters Kids’ dreams coming true.

     

    Becky and Andy’s commitment to family values, community service and philanthropy has helped create a reputation that goes far beyond just the dance world.

    GENE BURDETTE

    DIRECTOR

     

    Gene joined the Monsters family full time in 2006. A long-time friend and colleague of Andy Funk, Gene was hired to help manage the company’s continued growth and facilitate numerous projects which Monsters has in development. Gene has experience in a variety of fields including marketing, business development, logistics, public relations, information technology & more. He graduated with a Marketing and Business degree from Towson University in 1996, eventually teaming up with Andy Funk while working together at the Baltimore Orioles.

     

    CAROLINE MCCABE

    EVENT & HOSPITALITY MANAGER

     

    Caroline is a 2013 graduate of Florida State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations and minors in Business Administration and Hospitality. After a successful internship with Monsters during the summer of her Junior year at FSU, Monsters was thrilled to welcome her back to a full-time position in 2013. Caroline also completed a successful Leadership Essentials program through Leadership Howard County, a prestigious program for business and career development. Her excellent writing, marketing and public relations skills have brought a fresh approach to the company’s ever-growing brand.

    RACHEL PETTI

    EVENT MANAGER

     

    Rachel is a Baltimore native and has been in the dance world ever since she can remember. She is a 2014 graduate of Towson University, where she was a four-year member of the 17x National Champion Towson Dance Team. With a degree in Public Relations and Advertising, Rachel went on to expand her knowledge of the dance convention and competition industry since graduation. Aside from dance, Rachel has a love for theater and film and has been seen in several productions at Toby's Dinner Theatre as well as extras in TV shows such as HBO's Game Change. With a positive outlook on life and a goal to inspire and create, she is extremely excited and honored to be a part of the incredible Monster's Dance family.
